Brainlab approached the agency to lead the design process of a new complementary neurocognitive measurement tool, that has been designed to aid healthcare professionals and recovering brain tumour patients.

This tool is used directly by the patients at home in close collaboration with their healthcare providers and contains a set of tasks that generate useful data about some of the patient’s cognitive skills.

How might we design a medical tool that doesn’t feel medical?

My role.

Working on-site in a close collaboration with the client, I was in charge of developing the visual language, based on a pre-selected idea.

My role was to transform Brainlab’s corporate identity into a new, playful and engaging visual style.

The moodboard: Dark vs. Light. Nigh-time trains, vs. clear graphs and data. Vibrant colours. Geometric shapes.

Design
challenges

  1. The design should be motivating and engaging in order to support the recovery process.

  2. At the same time, Minimalistic. Any distractions from the tests should be avoided.

  3. The design should not feel medical.

From wireframes (left) to visual design: concept development & ideation.

The colours

The introduction screens are vibrant, colourful and include an animated element.

Each test is characterised by a different colour in order to increase the distinction.
